Microsoft and DOJ Continue Negotiations
(May 15, 1998) On Thursday, Microsoft agreed to delay its release of Windows 98 to computer manufacturers from May 15 to May 18, and the Department of Justice agreed to delay filing any new antitrust lawsuit until Monday.
Microsoft had been scheduled to release its personal computer software upgrade, Windows 98, to computer manufacturers on Friday, May 15. The scheduled public release date remains June 25. Microsoft stated in a press release that "it has taken this step so that discussions with the Government, which have been proceeding for over a week, can continue."

Microsoft Confirms Continuing Discussions with Government
Windows 98 on Schedule for June 25 Launch, but Microsoft to Delay Until Monday Release to PC Manufacturers
Redmond, Wash. - May 14, 1998 - The Microsoft Corporation confirmed that it has
completed all work to develop Windows 98, but has agreed with the Department of Justice
and State Attorneys General not to release the product to computer manufacturers until
Monday. The company confirmed that it has taken this step so that discussions with the
Government, which have been proceeding for over a week, can continue. The company said
it continues with plans for the commercial launch of Windows 98 to consumers on June 25.
Microsoft will have no further comments at this time on its discussions with the
Government.

The Department of Justice, a coalition of state Attorneys General, and Microsoft areengaged in discussions. They have reached an agreement under which, while the discussionscontinue over the next several days, Microsoft will not ship Windows 98 and the Departmentof Justice and the states will not file lawsuits.
